Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2, 2026

GovScope is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

1. Information We Collect

When you use GovScope, we may collect:

  • Account information: your email address and optional display name, collected when you sign up via magic link or Google SSO.
  • Location data (optional): if you grant permission, we store your approximate latitude, longitude, city, county, and state to power proximity-based alerts. You can revoke this anytime in Settings.
  • Alert preferences: the municipalities, addresses, keywords, parcel IDs, and document types you choose to monitor.
  • Usage data: pages visited, features used, and general interaction patterns to improve the product. We do not track individual document views.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Deliver government document alerts you requested (email digests, instant alerts).
  • Send transactional emails (alert confirmations, account notifications).
  • Personalize your dashboard (nearby documents, location-aware features).
  • Improve GovScope features and fix bugs.

We never sell your personal data to third parties.

3. AI Processing

GovScope uses artificial intelligence to read government documents and generate plain-English summaries. This processing is fully automated and not reviewed by humans.

AI-generated summaries may contain errors. They are provided for convenience only and should not be relied upon as legal, financial, or professional advice. Always verify information against the original government documents.

4. Public Records

All government documents indexed by GovScope are publicly available records obtained from official government portals. We do not access private, sealed, or restricted government data. GovScope is not affiliated with or endorsed by any government entity.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Alert match history is retained for up to 12 months. You can request complete deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing [email protected]. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

6. Your Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect about you.
  • Request deletion of your personal information.
  • Opt out of the sale of your personal information (we do not sell data).
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

To exercise these rights, contact [email protected].

7. Cookies and Local Storage

GovScope uses:

  • Authentication tokens: stored securely to keep you signed in.
  • Location consent flag: remembers whether you allowed location access.
  • Theme preference: light/dark mode setting.
  • Dismissal flags: remembers banners and tours you have dismissed.

We do not use third-party tracking cookies or advertising pixels.

8. Third-Party Services

We use the following services to operate GovScope:

  • Supabase: database hosting and authentication (your data is stored securely in their US-based infrastructure).
  • Anthropic: AI document summarization (document text is sent to their API for processing; they do not retain it for training).
  • Google Maps: geocoding addresses mentioned in documents to enable proximity alerts.
  • Resend: email delivery for digests, alerts, and account notifications.

9. Children's Privacy

GovScope is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you via email or a notice on your dashboard. Continued use of GovScope after changes constitutes acceptance.
